iPad: The Future of Publishing Weekend Workshop When: June 11-13 Where: UCLA (To be confirmed) Who: Creative directors, film makers, media and advertising executives, digital strategists and anyone else involved in building online businesses What: A hyper collaborative weekend workshop led by The Groop on how to powerfully collaborate, envision and create digital applications for the Apple iPad and other platforms. The three-day event will be a challenging, hands-on workshop where teams will learn while executing a paper prototype of an Apple iPad application based on a theme provided by UCLA. At the end of the weekend, teams will pitch their prototype to industry experts and one team will be declared the winner. Groop School is $899 for the three day workshop. 10% of your tuition is donated to education. Michael Etter GRPK '03 is involved with a new project in Portland that replaces billboard advertisements with billboards designed by teenagers featuring messages of tolerance. This project, Create, Don't Hate! , gives students the opportunity to work with design professionals to create meaningful communication in their neighborhoods. Earl Gee GRPK '83, Partner and Creative Director of Gee + Chung Design, San Francisco, has been elected to the Board of Directors of the San Francisco Chapter of AIGA, the professional association for design, representing over 1,300 designers in graphics, interaction, experience, motion and affiliated fields in the Greater Bay Area. He will be serving a two-year term as Membership Co-Chairman.
Earl Gee GRPH '83 was recently honored as one of Graphic Design USA's People to Watch, appearing in the January 2010 issue. Gee is partner and creative director of Gee + Chung Design in San Francisco.
Earl Gee GRPH '83 recently received 1 Platinum Award, 2 Gold Awards and 2 Silver Awards in the 39th Creativity Annual Competition for projects in 5 different categories, to be published in the 400-page Creativity Awards Annual Book. Established in 1970, The Creativity Annual Awards is based in Louisville, KY and is one of the longest running independent international advertising and graphic design competitions in the world. He was also honored with a prestigious Silver Award in Graphis 100 Best Annual Reports 2010 for his firm's Velocity Interactive Group Offering Memorandum.
