Director's Letter

Welcome to the inaugural digital issue of Art Center’s alumni publication, Outer Circle. You will find many new features in this digital format, including interactive video content and an ability to post comments online. The theme of Outer Circle 11 explores the future of transportation design—which is fitting considering Art Center is celebrating the 60th anniversary of the Transportation Design Department in recognition of the year Strother MacMinn joined the College. Outer Circle 11 looks at the evolution of the Department and also features interviews of alumni working in the Transportation Design field. Additionally, we look at how Art Center is leading the dialogue on sustainable mobility through the creation of an annual Summit, and how the College is at the forefront of design research through the innovative Colors, Materials & Trends Exploration Laboratory.

As you may know, there have been some changes at the College this year, and yet the qualities that make the Art Center experience so unique and transformative remain. Art Center College of Design is filled with dedicated, incredible faculty and passionate, talented students from around the world. I’ve asked alumnus and faculty member Ramone Munoz (MFA FAPT ’90, ADVT ’77), who is celebrating his 40th year of involvement with the College and who also serves as chair of Legacy Circle, to share his thoughts on Art Center then and now.

We hope you enjoy this new, enhanced Outer Circle and we thank you for your involvement with the Art Center community. For more information on the programs and resources offered by Alumni Relations, please visit our alumni Web site: www.artcenter.edu/alumni.
