International Contemporary Furniture Fair
The New York show was curated by Susan Szenasy, Editor-in-Chief of Metropolis Magazine. This is the first year that a West Coast school was invited. Students and work selected for display: Philip Aja, armoire, kafKa; Ian Allen Dyer, Rivello Table; Michael Stefan Leoniak, seating, Bebo; Cecilia Vitas Volcoff Kasher, lighting, Raya Puntito; and Kimberly Murray, couch.

High Point Furniture Market Student Competition
Cecilia Vitas Volcoff Kasher and Kimberly Murray were two out of five finalists; Michael Leoniak, Philip Aja, and Ian Dyer exhibited their furniture prototypes.

Koizumi International Lighting Design Competition
Organized by the Koizumi Sangyo Corporation: Valerie Herzberg, finalist.

Hospitality Scholarship Award
Sponsored by the Network of Executive Women: 5th term student Kimberly Kerner and graduate student April Banks.

Saranno Famosi International Design Competition
Sponsored by Giornale dell'Arredamento magazine and furniture firm Misura Emme: Daniel Hostettler, Wilfrido Loor, Ami Shapiro and Martin Sonne's Home Entertainment Centers, the first two prizes.



IDEA99 Product Design Awards
Sponsored by IDSA and Business Week; six out of ten student awards were won by Art Center students: Gold Medals-Chueh Lee, Nokia Mobile Phone product project; Cecilia Vitas Volcoff Kasher and Arsenio Garcia-Monsalve, environmental and product students respectively; and William Tan, environmental student, for his Nimbus Meteorological Park. Silver Medal-Chueh Lee, "Quote," Acer Inc. project; Bronze Medals-Eric Lin, Landmine Eradicator, Cyrano Sciences project; and Michael Stefan Leoniak, Marco Date, and Andrei Markevich, Rescue Intensive Search Kayak (R.I.S.K).

Susan Choi was named one of the two top designers of personal communication devices in Nokia-sponsored project.
